After going 7-2 in the second half of the Spring Split with back-to-back undefeated weekends, 100 Thieves propelled themselves to a three-way tie for second. In a series of tiebreakers, they would have to defeat both Fly Quest and Evil Geniuses to secure the second seed in the playoffs.
The weekend started off with the Thieves playing against Fly Quest. The two teams went back and forth, but with both Cody “Cody Sun” Sun and Kim “Ssumday” Chan-ho popping off, the team was able to secure a clean win. However, Fly Quest still needed to lose Sunday’s game against Golden Guardians for a three-way tie to be a possibility.
100 Thieves lock in top 4
100 Thieves’ next game was against a 3-14 Counter Logic Gaming who had been having a rough time coming together as a team. In the beginning, the Thieves looked like they were struggling against the last-place team. They were down several thousand in gold but eventually got the baron to take the game back into their hands. The Thieves would have another 2-0 weekend and end the Split 10-8.
Tiebreakers began Monday with 100 Thieves facing off against Fly Quest for the second time that weekend. 100 Thieves came out of the gate with a strong team-fight composition and stomped Fly Quest in a clean 30-minute game. All they needed was to beat Evil Geniuses to secure second place. Despite using a similar composition to the one they had just used on Fly Quest, 100 Thieves fell to Evil Geniuses after a rocky start.
