6M downloads in first 24 hours

Call of Duty: Warzone is the latest in the battle royale genre, after the previous release of Blackout that accompanied first-person shooter title Call of Duty: Black Ops 4. The new game features the same theme and environment as Call of Duty: Modern Warfare.

However, players aren’t required to purchase the latter to gain access, as they did with Blackout. Fans were quick to try the military video game franchise title with its past popularity, and it didn’t fail to live up to the hype.

With 6 million player downloads in the first 24 hours, Call of Duty: Warzone has surpassed previous milestones set by fellow free-to-play games. Apex Legends drew in 2.5 million downloads in its first 24 hours, with 50 million downloads in the first month.

Similarly, Activision Blizzard’s Call of Duty: Mobile generated 148 million downloads in its first month. PUBG Mobile and Fortnite Mobile trailed behind at 60.7 million and 35 million downloads respectively. While all three games are free to play, in-app purchases brought in $52.9 million for COD Mobile in its first month, with PUBG Mobile and Fortnite Mobile collecting $3.5 million and $27.1 million respectively.

While the game requires an 18-20 GB update with Modern Warfare installed and an 80-100 GB download without, it packs many great features from other favorites into one title. With free-to-play accessibility, multiple game modes, cross-platform functionality, and more, Call of Duty: Warzone is on track to break existing player base records.
