After failing to secure former Griffin mid laner Jeong “Chovy” Ji-hoon, Evil Geniuses will look towards the LEC to fill this position. According to ESPN, the org will be signing ex-Vitality mid Daniele “Jiizuke” di Mauro, who entered free agency at the start of the off-season.
Jiizuke would be the final piece of EG’s 2020 LCS puzzle. All the other positions have been officially filled and should Jiizuke officially join, EG’s roster would be:
|Top||Colin “Kumo” Zhao|
|Jungle||Dennis “Svenskeren” Johnsen|
|Mid||Daniele “Jiizuke” di Mauro|
|Bot||Bae “Bang” Jun-sik|
|Support||Tristan “Zeyzal” Stidam|
Jiizuke broke out during his rookie 2018 year, helping Vitality to Worlds 2018 qualification. Even though the team couldn’t get out of groups, Jiizuke stood out as one of the most impactful players on his team and was key to beating Gen.G twice and taking a game off of tournament favorites Royal Never Give Up. In 2019, however, Vitality performed worse, despite keeping mostly the same roster, and finished top 6 in the Summer Split, missing Worlds.
If confirmed, Jiizuke will be the third non-American player on EG’s roster, alongside Bang and Svenskeren. However, Svenskeren is said to be applying for his US citizenship, which would free up an import slot for Evil Geniuses.
EG themselves will be looking to make a splash in their first year as a permanent LCS partner. The org was previously involved in League of Legends for several years: as “Evil Geniuses” between 2013 and 2014 and as the rebranded Winterfox in 2015. With the disbandment of Winterfox in July 2015, the org exited the scene.
EG returned to the LCS by acquiring the slot of Echo Fox, who were forced to sell after a myriad of internal issues between co-founder Rick Fox and myriad of Echo Fox partners.
