The 2020 Overwatch League season was far from normal, but it came and went none the less. During the year, plenty of players stepped up to help their teams, but there can only be one MVP. In 2020, the T-Mobile OWL MVP award goes to Byung-sun “Fleta” Kim of the Shanghai Dragons.
Who is Fleta?
Fleta is a 21-year-old South Korean flex DPS player for the Shanghai Dragons. He plays projectile DPS Heroes like Genji and Pharah, but also plays Tracer, Widowmaker, and others. He played for the Seoul Dynasty in 2018 and 2019 and joined the Dragons for this season. Fleta also won the Overwatch World Cup in 2018 on the South Korean roster.
Shanghai exceeded all expectations this season, finishing first place in the League with a 27-2 record. They won the May Melee and the Countdown Cup and came in second place in the Summer Showdown, losing 2-4 to the Guangzhou Charge.
Fleta was an instrumental part of the team’s success. As a starting DPS player, he was able to elevate the team to the top spot during the regular season, with high hopes to win the 2020 Overwatch League Championship.
Most players know Fleta for the statistic named after him, the Fleta Deadlift. The Fleta Deadlift stat goes to a player who gets more than half of their team’s final blows on a map. Fleta achieved this feat while playing for team Flash Lux in 2017.
Fleta and Shanghai have had a great season so far, and they are already set to play in the Grand Finals weekend. They will face off against the Philadelphia Fusion in the first round of the finals on October 8 at 9:00 AM ET. Be sure to check out the matches live on the Overwatch League’s official YouTube Channel.
Congratulations to Fleta on winning the 2020 OWL MVP. Hopefully we will get to see more great play from him in the future, along with a great MVP Hero skin.
