Another Green Bay Packer is jumping into esports. Marquez Valdes-Scantling, a stand-out wide receiver for the NFL team, has partnered with Subnation Media, the entertainment holding company focused on the culture of gaming and lifestyle of esports, to build an esports team to compete across various titles.
“Video games have always been a hobby and an outlet for me to express myself,” Valdes-Scantling told The Esports Observer. “I want to give other gamers the opportunity to be themselves as well as grow with others as a team. Trench Made represents who I am. I have battled through adverse situations my whole life. With my back against the wall, I have fought my way out of the trenches to get where I wanted to be.”
In putting together its competing rosters, TMG will host a scouting combine where gamers can showcase their “physical and mental skills.” According to TMG, the final rosters will train together, virtually, after “being equipped with the necessary gear to manage their gameplay, wellness regiment, streaming content, and other original programming.“
This partnership and addition of competitive teams falls in line with the other actions of Subnation such as when it acquired an equity interest in the Fortnite team XTRA Gaming. The company has also announced recent partnerships with Atari Hotels and The Beverly Hilton to develop and implement holistic esports and lifestyle strategies
Subnation does have some authenticity in the space as the company was chosen to be the official cultural partner of events like E3 and DreamHack. Subnation is also known for its activations for brands such as Volkswagen, Marvel, Amazon Games, Red Hat, and L’Oreal.
