Riot Games and TJ Sports Reveal the Five Cities Selected for the Worlds 2021 City Tour – The Esports Observer

Chinese League of Legends operator TJ Sports and Riot Games unveiled on Wednesday that five Chinese cities will host the 2021 League of Legends World Championships (Worlds 2021). The five cities that will part of the 2021 City Tour include Shanghai, Qingdao, Wuhan, Chengdu, and Shenzhen.

It should be noted that this is the first time the city of Qingdao will host the League of Legends international event. In January, TJ Sports and the Chengdu government hosted the League of Legends Pro League (LPL) All-Star event in Chengdu.

In May, Riot Games confirmed that the finals of Worlds 2021 will take place on Nov. 6 at the Universiade Sports Centre in Shenzhen with 60,000 seats. Riot Games and TJ Sports have not disclosed which city will host the semi-finals, playoffs, or group stage.

Historically, the World Championship applies the “City Tour” strategy and hosts in multiple cities in the hosting country. In 2017, Worlds was hosted in Wuhan (group stage), Guangzhou (playoffs), Shanghai (semi-finals) and Beijing (finals). Last year, Riot Games and TJ Sports canceled the “City Tour” strategy and hosted in Shanghai due to the pandemic.
