Team Aster brought in the four core strategy to claim the first qualifier ticket to the upper division of China Regional League Season 1.
At the end of the second day of China’s closed qualifiers for upper and lower divisions two teams have already been sent to the lower division, while Aster are so far the only team to have made it to the upper division. They secured the spot with clean victories over Dalanjing Gaming in the first round of matches and Royal Never Give Up in the qualifiers semifinals.
Aster’s last series in the qualifiers started with a flawless performance from Liu “DD” Yuhao on a mid lane Lina. His early dominance led to a Dagon build that simply annihilated RNG. While Dagon 5 is not exactly a common Lina build in competitive matches, even if she is played in the core position, the bigger surprise from Team Aster came in the second game where they decided to run a four core draft into RNG’s Terrorblade game plan.
The four core strat was revealed with the last pick, a Riki for Ye “BoBoKa” Zhibiao. Aster’s line-up was filled with a lot of AoE silences to keep control not only over the TB in the team fights but also on RNG’s core Lina and their duo supports Nyx Assassin and Tusk.
Besides Riki’s Smoke Screen, Aster also had a Grimstroke on their side and DD on Puck, which made it nearly impossible for RNG to save their carry Terrorblade. Boboka’s early successful rotations allowed him to build straight up into a carry, rushing Diffusal Blade and Aghanaim’s Scepter on Riki and snowballed into a 35-minute victory that brought Team Aster a slot into China Regional League upper division alongside PSG.LGD, Elephant, EHOME and Vici Gaming.
A total of four teams will make the cut to the upper division, so RNG still have a shot at bouncing back through the lower bracket. The decider series will be played tomorrow, January 10 at 12:00 CET against Invictus Gaming.
