The latest Indie World livestream from Nintendo has just announced a major exclusive, as Twitch smash hit Among Us comes to Switch.
Nintendo’s Indie World videos are usually pretty low-level affairs but this week’s has turned out to be full of unexpected revelations, headlined by Among Us coming to Switch.
Among Us was first released on mobile in the summer of 2018, a fact that went almost completely unnoticed by everyone until Twitch streamers started playing it during lockdown this year and it became a belated hit – so much so that developer Innersloth gave up plans to make a sequel.
The only other format it’s been available on up till now is the PC but now it’s become a Switch console exclusive and will be available on the eShop from Tuesday evening, December 15 for just £3.89.
Among Us was the surprise ending for the Indie World stream but there was a lot of other good stuff too, including Grindstone from Capybara Games, which has also become a major hit on mobile and also becomes a Switch console exclusive today.
The original game had a major influence on indie gaming and popularised the concept of ultra-hard 2D platformers but it’s 10 years old now and this follow-up is long overdue.
Then, to follow that up, the long-awaited Super Meat Boy Forever will launch on Wednesday, December 23 as, again, a Switch console exclusive.
Another indie classic coming to the Switch is Spelunky, although that won’t arrive until next summer. The good news though is that it’ll be accompanied by Spelunky 2 which is even better and one of our favourite games of the year.
The Indie World is only 17 minutes long, so we’d advise watching it all as there’s a lot of promising stuff in there.
We especially liked the look of Cyber-Shadow, which is being published by Shovel Knight creator Yacht Club Games and looks to be a fun cross between 8-bit Ninja Gaiden and a Metroidvania. It’s out relatively soon too, on January 26.
Other games that caught our eye were four-player party game Very Very Valet, Happy Game from Samorost developer Amanita Design, and Alba: A Wildlife Adventure from Monument Valley makers ustwo games.
