Animal Crossing: New Horizons’ Isabelle, Tom Nook And Co. Look Back Over 2020 In Short-Yet-Adorable Holiday Video

Reminiscing about 2020 may not exactly put many of us in the holiday spirit, but in the world of Animal Crossing: New Horizons, it really has been 12 months to fondly remember.

Here in the real world, it’s been a harrowing year for many. In response to the pandemic, the world has experienced a paradigm shift for the worst in the way people live their lives. Families have lost or been unable to visit loved ones, employees have lost their jobs or had to adapt to working from home (a change many companies such as Microsoft have suggested will become permanent for some), the impact of COVID-19 has been felt across the globe.

Sadly, millions of people will find themselves unable to celebrate this holiday season in the way they’ve been accustomed to. As the world tries to adapt all the food and fun to the remote, Zoom-enabled ‘new normal,’ Nintendo offers some solace in the fact that Animal Crossing: New Horizons’ holiday season is going to be as cheerful and adorably twee as ever.

Nintendo Switch is still a problematic console, with the outcry over Joy-Con drift now louder than ever, but Animal Crossing and the hybrid handheld made for a perfect combo to get lots of gamers (and non-gamers) through this tumultuous year. The game has seen a range of hefty updates, adding features like ocean swimming, the Dream Suite and the Halloween event, but now Toy Day (Christmas Eve) is approaching.

What better time, then, for Nintendo to release this heart-warming little clip? It shows Tom Nook, Isabelle, Celeste, Gulliver, Pascal, Redd, K.K. Slider and Leif gathered on an island plaza, discussing everything that’s happened in the game’s world this year and passing on their wishes for a safe and happy holiday season to everybody:

If you weren’t quite in the mood for the upcoming Toy Day festivities this year, maybe this cute clip will help just a little.
