Assassin’s Creed Valhalla: A Guide To All Of The Bearded Axes

Bearded Axes are weapons that were used by real-life Vikings back in the day and favorites among players of Assassin’s Creed Valhalla. They are for those who prefer a more balanced setup that leaves it open for Eivor to use things like shields, daggers, and hammers alongside it. When you upgrade these weapons, they begin to look even better in Eivor’s hands as their designs change.

These are one-handed weapons and there are five different types that Eivor can equip throughout the game. They can be anywhere from fine to mythical and it is well worth it to try a few of these out as they are basically guaranteed to become your go-to weapon. One thing to keep in mind is that the stats will vary based on your skill tree and what you have unlocked.

Raider Axe

The great thing about the Raider Axe is that you don’t have to go searching for it. It is already added to your inventory at the start of the game. The stats for this weapon are poor, but it is better than starting with just your fists.

This axe was made for speed, and its attack is still higher than most daggers, which is one tip for new players. If you raise it all the way to Mythical then it can increase its attack to 102, which isn’t horrible if you commit to using this weapon. The perk is favorable as it will increase heavy damage after dealing light damage, and it resets once you land a heavy attack.

Stats

  • Attack: 46
  • Stun: 45
  • Speed: 54
  • Crit-Pre: 47
  • Weight: 10

Varin’s Axe

Varin’s Axe can be found very early in the game as it is a reward for completing the main story quest called Honor Bound. This takes place in Rygjafylke, Norway, and requires you to fight an easy boss named Rikiwulf. Once he is defeated and you free your clan from the Longhouse, this weapon will be added to your inventory.

Many choose to use this weapon simply for nostalgic reasons as it was Eivor’s father’s axe. However, when upgraded Varin’s Axe becomes one of the best weapons in the game. It also has a useful perk that increases your speed after each successful hit up to ten times. This can make you even faster and allow you to deplete an enemy’s health even faster.

Stats

  • Attack: 54
  • Stun: 55
  • Speed: 48
  • Crit-Pre: 47
  • Weight: 12

Housecarl’s Axe

The Housecarl’s Axe is a superior Bearded Axe that lets you fight harder Zealots early and it can be acquired by venturing into Grantebridgescire. It is in a location called Utbech Camp and it can be found along the Great Ouse River in the upper right middle of the region. You have to find the guard who has the key and then you can unlock the door to the central hut where the chest with this weapon resides.

It is often debated whether Housecarl’s Axe or Varin’s Axe is better for making an overpowered character, and the verdict is that they are so similar there isn’t much difference. There are arguments for both weapons and it ultimately comes down to the individual user and which perk they prefer. The perk for this weapon is that Eivor’s attack damage will increase after each hit up to ten times.

Stats

  • Attack: 50
  • Stun: 60
  • Speed: 50
  • Crit-Pre: 47
  • Weight: 11

Fyrd Axe

The Fyrd Axe can be acquired in a place called Jorvik, which is one of the best things about the game, and the exact location is Foresti’s Rest in the southern part of this area. There is a large building you will have to enter, but the location is friendly so you won’t have to fend off any opponents while you retrieve it.

If you look behind a partition, there will be a movable object where the key is located. Next, you have to climb up into the rafters to reach the chest, and unlocking it will add this weapon to your inventory.

The perk isn’t as great as some of the other Bearded Axes, but its attack damage makes up for this. This weapon increases critical attack damage when Eivor has low health. The only problem is that later in the game when your rations are fully stocked, this isn’t very useful in battles.

Stats

  • Attack: 86
  • Stun: 124
  • Speed: 48
  • Crit-Pre: 65
  • Weight: 8

Bear-Claw

The final Bearded Axe in Assassin’s Creed Valhalla is called the Bear-Claw, and it can only be acquired by buying the Season Pass for the game. The Season Pass costs $39.99, and it opens up your world to explore Paris and Ireland. However, if these added areas don’t interest you, it is probably not worth it to splurge on the Season Pass just for this item.

The perk is great as eating a ration will temporarily increase your attack, which is perfect when fighting legendary animals. While it is very fast, the Bear-Claw is lacking in attack damage, which is something to keep in mind when comparing it to the other Bearded Axes in Assassin’s Creed Valhalla.

Stats

  • Attack: 46
  • Stun: 48
  • Speed: 55
  • Crit-Pre: 48
  • Weight: 9
