Atlus Shares Dr. Maruki Artwork To Support Voice Actor’s Cancer Battle

Atlus has shared a message of support for voice actor Billy Kametz after revealing that he has been diagnosed with stage 4 colon cancer. While you may not have heard his name, you'll undoubtedly have played or watched something he worked on, having been involved in several big-name franchises over his career, including Pokemon, Final Fantasy, and Fire Emblem.

Kametz has also featured in several Atlus titles as well, including Shin Megami Tensei 3: Nocturne and 13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim. However, it's Persona fans that might recognize him best as Kametz also plays Dr. Maruki, the kind-hearted, snack-loving psychiatrist that players meet in Persona 5 Royal. Since Atlus and Kametz have such a close working relationship, it recently wished Kametz a full recovery on Twitter earlier today, along with a specially designed piece of artwork from Persona artist Shigenori Soejima.

There is some good news though, as at the time of publication Kametz's Gofundme page has reached its final goal, meaning the voice actor will be able to afford his treatment. The Gofundme is still being left open though as Kametz's treatment is still ongoing, so definitely don't think you can't donate anymore if you were originally planning to. If you'd like to donate, you can do so by visiting the page here.

In a statement posted shortly after the goal was reached, the Gofundme's organizer Jinnie McManus (a friend of Kametz) thanked everyone who has already donated and promised that people would hear from Kametz soon.

"You did it! You really did it! We made goal!!" said McManus. "Thank you so so so much. To be able to surround my friend Billy with such love has been a gift. And please know that every donation, from the thousands at a time (!) to the heartfelt smaller amounts, low or high, made a real difference and has been so appreciated."

It's nice to see a wholesome story come out of the games industry for once, and I think I can speak for everyone at TheGamer when I say we wish Billy a speedy recovery as well.
