Santa Claus is coming to Battlefield 2042, according to recent leaks that have circulated far and wide all over social media. And Battlefield fans don't seem too happy about it.
You can take a look at the leaked images below courtesy of a few Battlefield Twitter accounts. First we have the "Bic Nic" skin for the M1A5 which has a jaunty red color and reindeer patterns on the side skirts, and then there's the "Little Blitzen" skin for the MD540 Nightbird which adds Christmas lights and a holiday-themed camouflage.
But the big-ticket item here is the "Father Winter" skin for Boris. As you can see, Saint Nick has gone on a diet and procured some body armor for the war being fought in 2042. Guess there aren't that many good kids to deliver presents to in the future.
The leak also includes several non-holiday-themed skins, such as the "Grin Reaper" for the MI-240 Super Hind, the "Deliverance" skin for the pump-action shotgun, and the "Great Outdoors" skin for Mackay that seems to turn him into Crocodile Dundee. Come to think of it, Crocodile Dundee technically took place during Christmas, so I guess that's also a holiday-themed skin. Huh.
Fans are not particularly happy about the skins for several reasons. First, they see it as an attempt to monetize Battlefield 2042 in a similar fashion to Fortnite or Apex Legends, which is a vast departure for the franchise. Second, fans were already shown these skins back in March and voted them down during a Q&A session.
"I'm still hoping for this to be photoshop and just a terrible joke," one stunned Reddit user wrote.
These new Christmas-themed skins aren't all that's angering Battlefield players. The latest update might have fixed some of the game's spawn and stuttering issues, but it added a bug that prevents mouse and keyboard users from being able to turn horizontally. There's a fix for this bug that involves deleting a bunch of lines on the PROFSAVE_profile file, but fans are still none too pleased about having to essentially hack their own game.
