Benedict Cumberbatch Ditches Beard On Set Of Doctor Strange In The Multiverse Of Madness

Sam Raimi’s Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is currently filming in Somerset, England, and one lucky person bumped into Benedict Cumberbatch within the grassy expanse – except his Doctor Strange goatee was surprisingly absent.

The MCU is alight with a raft of rumours and enough Disney Plus shows to crush Steve Rogers. Additionally, The Falcon and The Winter Soldier just concluded by introducing a big staple in the franchise’s future. Everybody should know by now that the Captain America mantle has officially passed to Anthony Mackie’s Sam Wilson, and on the heels of the show’s finale, a fourth Cap film was announced. Mackie will presumably be in the lead with Sebastian Stan returning as Bucky Barnes, but in another corner of the MCU, the Multiverse is about to open up.

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness may contest with Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings for longest Marvel title, but its narrative promises to deliver one of the most mind-bending superhero experiences audiences have ever seen. The Sorcerer Supreme will, of course, be at the front of this madness, but a recent appearance of Cumberbatch has us somewhat confused.

One fan uploaded a video to TikTok of the actor who is currently clean-shaven, which left us wondering whether Strange will sport his iconic goatee or not. We know that Cumberbatch previously grew the beard himself, so perhaps there will be some scenes of Stephen Strange prior to becoming the sorcerer, a even a version of him from another dimension.

The Multiverse will no doubt take our beloved characters back in time, forward in time, and everywhere in between, which is a trip Tom Holland’s Spider-Man is meant to take as well. No Way Home’s plot has been rumored to follow the ‘Happy Birthday’ story arc from the comics, which will also feature Doctor Strange who opens a porthole at one point. This would in fact peg No Way Home as the first live-action feature to unlock the force of the Multiverse, following on from the animated hit Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse.

Sam Raimi is also rumored to be returning to the Spider-Man franchise for a fourth feature, returning Tobey Maguire to continue the treasured trilogy. It was speculated that Maguire would cameo in No Way Home, and Raimi’s Spider-Man 4 would progress this narrative.
