Good news for those concerned about the raunchiness of the third Deadpool film. Even though Fox, the studio responsible for the first two films, was acquired by Disney a few years back, it seems that they are not eager to change the format that makes Deadpool what it is. In fact, according to the upcoming film’s screenwriters, Disney is “very supportive” of the planned "R" rating.
The writers for Deadpool 3, Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, recently sat down with Den of Geek to discuss the film and how Disney’s acquisition of Fox has changed things this time around. Naturally, this meant addressing the largest question looming over the film: how raunchy would Disney allow them to be? Fans of the first two Deadpool films will know that they leaned into the bawdier side of things with some graphic sex scenes, bloody violence, and plenty of dirty language.
According to Reese and Wernick, fans don't need to worry about a tamer Ryan Reynolds in the film. They shared that Disney has "been very supportive with regard to that. Now, when it comes to a particular joke, if we cross a line, maybe we’ll hear at some point 'maybe not that joke.' But we’ve definitely got their support and that’s a great thing to feel.”
Seems fans need not fear Deadpool not being his raunchy self even within the House of Mouse. Plus, the acquisition by Disney opens up a whole new franchise for Deadpool to make fun of and a whole new cast of characters for the team to play around with. After all, it is now possible for Deadpool to come face to face with some of the MCU’s mightiest and most popular like Chris Hemsworth’s Thor or Benedict Cumberbatch’s Doctor Strange.
Of course, Reese and Wernick are staying tight lipped on any potential plot points or spoilers for the still-in-production film. For now, fans will just have to speculate wildly about who will show up in Deadpool’s third outing. But they can rest easy knowing that when the film finally releases, it will be just as crass as ever.
