Every Lego Star Wars Game, Ranked

If somebody back in the year 2004 told you that Lego Star Wars is getting ready to be one of the greatest Star Wars video game series of all time, would you believe them? Traveller's Tales has singlehandedly made the Lego brand known and beloved for all ages across Star Wars and many more fantasy and sci-fi titles.

It's been over a decade and a half now since the original Lego Star Wars was launched. Since then they've done nearly a half-dozen more games covering every era between the nine Star Wars films. So which ones best stand up to the test of time? And what's the best one to grab if you're just now beginning to play Lego Star Wars?

6 Lego Star Wars: The Force Awakens

The Force Awakens is the only Lego Star Wars game based on a single movie. Given that, it had the potential to do more with less. The semi-open world aspect felt like an attempt to do that, giving players more of each scenario to explore since there's only one movie to play through.

The issue is that the resulting game ends up feeling more on the slow, tedious, and boring side. It's also fairly rife with bugs. This is the one Lego Star Wars game not developed by Traveller's Tales, but rather TT Fusion, a separate development studio acquired by TT. So we see what happens when the original Traveller's Tales studio doesn't handle a Lego game.

5 Lego Star Wars III: The Clone Wars

We're done with the one faulty Lego Star Wars game. Now we're really just ranking good games by which ones are better. Lego Star Wars III added a lot to the series. It innovated both the combat and the look of the game to very refined levels. Its main fault, however, is in the story.

It pulls from both the Clone Wars movie and the seven seasons TV show, which should give it a wealth of content, characters, and storylines to make it into a masterpiece game. But, when the game was launched, only three seasons of the show were out. This means Lego Star Wars III misses some of the best Clone Wars content out there, and it's really a shame for fans of the show.

4 Lego Star Wars II: The Original Trilogy

With Lego Star Wars II, Traveller's Tales took the formula from the original game and perfected it to an even greater degree. Between things like the character creation system and making blaster-wielders more effective with dodges, everything they added to this entry only served to the game's benefit, with absolutely no filler being present in this title.

Plus, while playing through the prequels was fun and extremely relevant in 2005, playing through the original trilogy in this Lego format is that much more entertaining.

3 Lego Star Wars (The Prequels)

We absolutely must respect the original classic. Since 2005's Lego Star Wars is the original, and thus the least-refined in many ways (outside of The Force Awakens many bugs), the case could be made that this game should be dropped down a place or two.

But, at the same time, none of the games on this list would be here without this game. None of the Lego games would be here at all, actually. From Lego Indiana Jones to Lego Batman, this Lego Star Wars is the one that started it all.

2 Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga

It almost feels unreasonable that this much effort and care was put into a Lego game. Anyway, here it is. The Skywalker Saga is not only loaded to the brim with content, but it also presents a plethora of new ways to approach that content like you've never seen before in a previous Lego Star Wars title. From the combat to the largest roster of fantastic characters from any Lego game to date, this game feels remarkably fresh for the series.

Also, the already large amount of content in the game is just going to keep getting bigger. There's already been a DLC put out to add characters from The Mandalorian (yes, you can play as Baby Yoda) and there's even more slated to come in the future. It's possible that The Skywalker Saga deserves to take the top spot on this list. The main reason it doesn't is just that it's so new that we are still getting to know each of its studs. With the passage of time, it may in fact hold up to be the greatest Lego Star Wars game ever made.

1 Lego Star Wars: The Complete Saga

Before the Disney trilogy existed, Lego Star Wars: The Complete Saga was just that. It was every Star Wars movie, at the time, compressed into one huge Lego experience — and it was amazing.

It could have been as simple as just throwing the first two Lego Star Wars titles into a collection and shipping it out to the public, but Traveller's Tales went the extra mile upgrading many features and making sure the games flow into each other smoothly. There were more characters and options than ever before, and it remains the pinnacle of the Lego gaming experience.
