Fortnite update 16.50 will be available to download later today after Epic Games completes a fresh round of server maintenance.
Fortnite servers are scheduled to go offline this morning across all major platforms, meaning PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, PC and Nintendo Switch.
This is all happening simultaneously instead of a rolling blackout, meaning gamers will be without core services for a set period.
This will be followed by a new update being released for everyone to download, bringing with it new content.
The good news is that Epic Games has not warned against any extended downtime, meaning this shouldn’t be larger than normal patch.
The dev team has revealed some of the stuff that will be of the new update, including a guide as part of the early patch notes.
The list of new Fortnite being teased by Epic Games includes the following:
- A fan favourite comes back out of the vault.
- Survey and oversee larger spaces in Creative.
- Spend your Bars BIG in the next Wild Week starting June 3.
We don’t know what item will be unvaulted but recent rumours suggest that it will be the Dual Pistols.
This is based on leaked challenges that reference using Dual Pistols to deal damage.
Update 16.50 is also expected to lay the foundations for Season 7, and perhaps usher in the end of season event.
The next Wild Week, meanwhile, will reward players for spending gold and is likely to make it easier to acquire currency.

WHEN IS FORTNITE DOWNTIME FOR UPDATE 16.40 STARTING?
Fortnite server downtime has been set for 9am GMT, on Tuesday, May 25 across all platforms.
For gamers in the United States, this will mean maintenance starting at the much earlier time of 4am EDT, on the same day.
Servers will be coming back online at the same time for everyone, so no one should be left waiting.
Epic Games has not confirmed how long Fortnite downtime is but an estimate has been shared on the site.
The official Epic Games site suggests that the longest servers could be down is three hours, which will mean Fortnite becoming playable again at Midday.
A message from the Fortnite support team adds: “Keep running wild in a new game update.
“Update v16.50 is scheduled to release on May 25. Downtime will begin at approx. 4 AM ET (08:00 UTC).”
Later this week and early next month, Epic Games will be releasing its latest DC Comic, with Deathstroke coming to the island.
Gamers will be able to unlock the new skin early, with the Fortnite team confirming this week:
“Compete in the Deathstroke Zero Cup on May 27, 2021 for the opportunity to unlock the Deathstroke Zero Outfit and Deathstroke’s Katanas before they hit the Item Shop!
“This is a Solo competition, where players will need to brave it alone — playing up to 10 matches in their region’s three-hour time window. Specific times for each region can currently be found in the Compete tab in-game.”
Deathstroke is scheduled to be released in the Item Shop on June 1 across all platforms.
