Fortnite Ends The Year With A Server Outage

Several hours ago, Fortnite's Twitter account alerted fans to a problem with both login and matchmaking, but soon followed it up with worse news: "Fortnite is currently unavailable and players are unable to log-in while we investigate an issue." Epic "will provide more info" once they located the problem and can estimate a time frame for bringing the servers back online.

Several Fortnite players reported problems logging in to the massive battle royale shooter. Players were met with the message "you do not have permission to play Fortnite," which is a message associated with an Epic account mismatch.

The Verge reported that the Epic Game Store is also experiencing an issue where some players couldn't log in or access their games. It seems to be working now, but Fortnite is still entirely unavailable.

The official Epic Status site confirms The Epic Games Store is having minor issues, but Fortnite is experiencing a major outage. Epic is investigating the issue as of 1:15 PM ET.

This is the second major outage for Epic in a week. The first came just before Christmas thanks to a major Amazon Web Services outage that also affected Twitch, PSN, and Xbox Live. At the time, players were also unable to access any games on Epic's digital platform.
