Evidence has emerged that Guerrilla Games are working on a new game with the director of Rainbow Six Siege, but it’s probably not Killzone.
Although nobody’s ever said anything in public (well, the voice actress of Tatai did) but it’s super obvious that there’s going to be a sequel Horizon Zero Dawn, what with it being Sony’s most successful new IP of the current generation.
The best guess is that it’s being held back for the PlayStation 5, but according to a new job ad it doesn’t sound like it’s the only game that developer Guerrilla Games are currently working on.
The role of Java developer is for an ‘unannounced title’ and a role that seems heavily focused on multiplayer features such as matchmaking, tournaments, clans, and leaderboards.
There’s nothing to say that the game in question isn’t Horizon Zero Dawn 2, and that it’ll be getting multiplayer options that the original never had, but there are a couple of factors that may point to an entirely separate game.
Guerrilla has been on a hiring spree lately and now has up to 400 staff, which is much more than they ever needed to make the first Horizon Zero Dawn.
They also hired Rainbow Six Siege director Simon Larouche last year, whose talents really don’t seem well suited to a single-player action role-player like Horizon Zero Dawn.
Larouche also tweeted about the job in question with the exclamation, ‘Sooo, it begins!’ which could imply the official start of the project.
The only certain thing is that something Guerrilla is working on will definitely have multiplayer, so that’s definitely something to look forward to.
And If there’s anyone hoping for a return for Killzone then the job ad does name check the franchise, although it seems to be only in the context of its server technology.
