One of the greatest new IPs to arrive on the PlayStation 4 generation is getting a sequel on PlayStation 5.
Sony confirmed that Horizon Zero Dawn will be getting a follow up at its big PlayStation 5 reveal event in June 2020, where it officially titled Horizon Zero Dawn 2 "Horizon Forbidden West".
The new title, from developer Guerrilla Games is coming exclusively to PlayStation 5.
In the sequel, you reprise the role of young hunter named Aloy, who is tasked with saving the world from a mysterious new threat that appears to be brewing in what used to be the United States of America.
Horizon Forbidden West will carry on directly from where the previous game in the series left off, seeing Aloy heading out West (hence the name) to encounter new threats and explore new environments.
Is Horizon Forbidden West coming to Xbox Series X?
Horizon Forbidden West has been announced as a PlayStation 5 exclusive.
That means that developer Guerrilla Games will be getting the game up and running on PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 5 alone – at least in the short term.
But longer term, we could at least see the game arrive on a Windows platform – albeit not the Xbox.
Hermen Hulst, who runs PlayStation Worldwide Studios, took to the PlayStation blog in March to announce that the first game in Guerrilla's series would be seeing a PC release in summer 2020.
The game was previously exclusive to the PlayStation 4, and demonstrates Sony's willingness to fold PC into its ecosystem somewhat.
Just don't expect the game to come out on Xbox One or Xbox Series X – to date, no Sony exclusives have launched on their rival platform.
