The always unique and surprising world of Minecraft is full of cute blocky animals to farm and befriend, with foxes being among the more recent additions. Just like every other animal you can tame in the game, you need to know just what they like if you want to make one a loyal pet.
Just like wolves and ocelots before them, foxes are a cute, yet potentially deadly, creature you can encounter in the endless world of Minecraft. However, foxes can be tamed to become a loyal companion to join you on your adventures. If you tame more than one, you can even breed them to grow a small skulk of foxes. The only two hurdles standing in your way are finding a fox, and knowing how to go about taming it. We’ll make it as easy as possible so you can get one of these sneaky orange beauties for yourself.
How To Tame Foxes In Minecraft
Before we set off in search of foxes, you need to be aware that the in-game versions of these critters are just as nocturnal as their real-life counterparts. That means you’ll be doing most of your searching at night, which is when the world is most dangerous. Before you go out looking for a new pet, make sure you have some weapons and armor ready to fight off any mobs that might look to spoil your night.
Where To Look
Once night has fallen you should start your search for a fox in a taiga biome such as regular taiga, giant tree taiga, and snow taiga. You might also find a fox in a taiga village if you’re lucky enough to encounter one of those, and if you find a snow taiga biome the foxes will have white fur instead of orange. Just roam around the forests with your eyes peeled. Their color should make them easy enough to spot.
How To Tame A Fox
Foxes in Minecraft, again similar to real life, won’t just let you walk up to them. They’re scared by nature, so you’ll need something they find tasty on hand to lure them in. While ocelot like fish and wolves enjoy bones, foxes are partial to sweet berries. Hold some out once you see a fox and approach slowly. Make sure to have a good amount on hand because, just like when taming other critters, it might take a few bites before they fully trust you. Once you see the hearts appear over their heads, though, you know you’ve won them over.
Once you have a new companion you’ll find that they occasionally bring you little treasures they find out in the wild. Mostly you’ll get feathers, most likely as a leftover from a meal, but can actually hold any item dropped in the area. However, if the fox gets too close to a wild sweet berry bush it will drop whatever it has in its mouth and run over to eat the berries, so keep that in mind if you decide to entrust it with holding anything valuable.
How To Breed Foxes
If you have two tamed foxes, breeding them is as easy as feeding them more sweet berries while close to one another. The new baby fox will automatically be tame, although they will follow their parents more than you until they mature.
