Modder Adds Third-Person Mode To Cyberpunk 2077

Cyberpunk 2077 was originally intended to offer a third-person perspective, before CD Projekt Red scrapped those plans to create a more immersive experience. That hasn’t stopped one modder from adding it back on their own – and the early results look promising.

Before you get too excited, it’s worth pointing out you can’t yet download this mod. Its creator is still in the early phases of development, and all that’s available right now is the brief demo video. Still, it’s a cool look at what could have been, if only CD Projekt Red kept it in the game.

The short demo shows off V going for a jog in the desert around Night City. The animations still need some work – as they’re a bit choppy – but plenty of fans are already excited for the possibilities. Its creator, Cineagle, said they built the demo reel using modding tools for Dirt 5 and don’t even play Cyberpunk 2077. Worse yet, they claim they don’t have any intention of continuing with the mod. Things may have changed now that the demo reel has blown up in popularity, but the odds of this becoming a reality are looking pretty slim.

There’s a great game buried beneath Cyberpunk 2077’s bugs and missing mechanics, although it’ll be a long while before console owners get to experience that game. CD Projekt Red and other retailers are offering full refunds to pretty much everybody who picked up the game – playing on PS4 or Xbox One is nothing like playing on PC or a next-gen system, and you’re best option right now is probably asking for your money back. As time goes on, all the kinks will eventually be ironed out, and Night City will be just as incredible as it was supposed to be.

And, once modders start getting their hands dirty, we can’t even imagine what Cyberpunk 2077 will turn into. This third-person perspective demo reel is just the tip of the iceberg, and we’re excited to see what folks have in store for the coming year.

Cyberpunk 2077 is now available on PS5, Xbox Series X, Xbox One, PC, and Stadia.
