Today, Nintendo announced the Nintendo Switch Lite – a follow-up to the company’s much-loved hybrid handheld/console system.
The new machine will operate purely as a handheld device. Nintendo has revealed that the Switch Lite will drop any sort of HDMI capability, meaning there will be no Dock with the console, and no way of playing it on your TV.
The console will also drop the detachable JoyCon, gunning instead for a single unit design with both controllers sealed inside the handheld device.
The Lite will sport a slightly smaller size than the original Switch console, but will have an improved battery life (estimates are coming in that this will be about 30% better than the standard hardware – not bad!)
The left side of the machine will also come with a D-Pad, rather than a four face-button configuration, which is sure to be great news to fighting game and platformer enthusiasts the world over.
The new machine will also rock in at $200 (about £160 at the time of writing), making it roughly $100 or £80 cheaper than the base Switch hardware – great news for anyone that hasn’t adopted the hardware just yet.
You can read everything we know about the Switch Lite below, including comparison specs between the two machines, as detailed by Nintendo’s official website.
