Puzzle Quest 3 was officially revealed earlier this year and now – almost two months later – the long-awaited third installment in the series is available on Android in Early Access. Only certain regions have access to the title, although 505 Games will be rolling it out to more locations in the coming weeks.
Puzzle Quest 3 will eventually find its way to iOS and PC, but for now, only Android users will get to jump back into the puzzle-questing action.
“This first step into soft launch feels momentous for all of us – our teams here at Infinity Plus Two, 505 Games, and of course, all of the Puzzle Quest fans around the world,” Steve Fawkner, creator of Puzzle Quest, said. “We want to make sure we do our best to deliver on an amazing game experience that stays true to the Puzzle Quest series and captures that original magic, but also introduces fresh exciting features that can redefine the puzzle-RPG genre once again.”
Fawkner continued: “We’ve hard at work building a completely new puzzle experience that pushes the boundaries of your typical match-3. The puzzle board, the new 3D graphics and art (the world of Etheria, its heroes and enemies), the signature Puzzle Quest RPG features, the storyline – we’ve basically rebuilt an entirely new modernized Puzzle Quest game that we’re proud of, and hopefully our community will feel the same.”
If you’re interested in checking out how Puzzle Quest 3 changes up the formula from the first two installments, you can download it for free on Google Play. It comes with the usual assortment of microtransactions, with some climbing as high as $99.99.
The developer of Puzzle Quest – Infinity Plus 2 – was recently acquired by 505 Games. The developer was responsible for producing over 30 games, including Gems of War and Warlords 4: Heroes of Etheria.
Puzzle Quest has managed to pull in over $200 million in revenue since debuting in 2007, proving itself to be a valuable franchise – and one that 505 Games wanted to be a part of.
Puzzle Quest 3 does not yet have an official release date, although we wouldn’t be surprised to see it launch within the next few months.
