Resident Evil 4 remake is seemingly locking some treasure collectibles behind the Treasure Map Expansion, which comes bundled with the digital deluxe edition.
You might not remember it considering how much of a roll Capcom has been on lately, but one of the things the studio was most known for some time ago was its shady DLC practices. Perhaps the best example of this is when Capcom used to lock off DLC characters despite them being on the disk and finished, clearly cutting content out to re-sell it back to the player.
Well, it's been some time since we've seen that side of Capcom, but it looks like we're getting a little slice of it with the Resident Evil 4 remake. As spotted by ResetEra user Vito, a description for the Treasure Map Expansion pass on the Xbox Store reveals that buying the digital deluxe edition of the game and getting the pass will unlock treasures that would otherwise be locked off.
The description reads, "Discover the hidden treasures that await! With this map, additional treasures will be placed throughout the game. Some of these treasures can only be obtained by this method".
From the "additional treasures will be placed" part of the description, it seems that the treasures don't ordinarily exist in the game world unless you've got the DLC pack, so hopefully players won't be running into locked treasure chests that need the pass to be interacted with.
This essentially means that those who have the pass will have access to more treasure in the game and get the chance to earn more money, essentially acting as a slightly more interesting money pack. In the grand scheme of things, it's not quite as heinous as what Capcom used to do with its DLC, but it's a little disappointing that these chests are not only locked behind the pass but also specifically locked behind the digital deluxe edition and not available for anyone else.
