The Dark Pictures Anthology: House Of Ashes Coming In 2021

After releasing The Dark Pictures Anthology: Little Hope last Friday, Supermassive Games is already gearing up for the next installment in the series. Titled House of Ashes, the studio’s next game is set to debut in 2021. So far we know that Ashley Tisdale, of High School Musical fame, will voice the central character in House of Ashes.

Although no platforms have been announced yet, it is assumed that like the previous entries, House of Ashes will be released for the PS4, Xbox One, and PC, and presumably next-gen consoles. In the teaser, released at the end of Little Hope, we see that the action will take place somewhere in the Middle East with the protagonist wading through a flooded cave where ghoulish creatures await.

Unlike Little Hope, which is set in a New England town with a history of witch-hunting, and follows after four college students and their professor after their bus crashes, House of Ashes seems to focus on American soldiers.

House of Ashes, unlike Little Hope, which was inspired by films like The Witch, The Blair Witch Project, Hellraiser, It Follows, The Omen, and Season of the Witch, bears more of a likeness to Indiana Jones, The Mummy or even The Exorcist. In the trailer we can see a glimpse of Pazuzu, the character from Assyrian and Babylonian mythology who was considered the king of the demons of the wind and the son of the god Hanbi. In the 1973 version of The Exorcist, he is said to inhabit the body of Regan MacNeil.

In our review, we note that “Little Hope isn’t a massive step forward for the series, [but] it’s certainly a narrative improvement over Man Of Medan.” We can only hope the plot is refined even further for House of Ashes, although hopefully with a more interesting gameplay loop.
