EA has partnered with Augusta National Golf Club to bring The Masters back to the world of video games. EA Sports PGA Tour will be the exclusive home of Augusta National and The Masters – which made their first appearance in the series back in 2011.
Along with The Masters, EA Sports PGA Tour will also include the PGA Championship, US Open Championship, and The Open Championship. Electronic Arts mentioned its upcoming game will be “the only video game where fans can compete at all four of golf’s major championships.”
More information about all these tournaments is expected to arrive later this summer.
EA Sports worked closely with Augusta National to faithfully recreate the course, using aerial scanning to collect data points for in-game rendering. When it launches, you’ll be able to tackle the “Road to the Masters” content – competing in the iconic tournament and taking part in experiences exclusive to Augusta National.
“We’re honored to partner with Augusta National, home of the Masters Tournament, to feature the course and its traditions exclusively in EA Sports PGA Tour,” said Cam Weber, EVP and GM, EA Sports. “EA Sports is committed to growing the love of sports for everyone, and through our partnerships with the PGA Tour, Augusta National and the other majors, we will bring new and longtime fans closer to the biggest events in golf than ever before.”
Beyond being featured in-game, The Masters will also be the “cover athlete” for EA Sports PGA Tour.
“Winning the Masters last year was one of the greatest moments of my life, and I hope to win there again,” said Dustin Johnson, 2020 Masters champion and the world’s No. 1 ranked golfer. “There is no Tournament better suited to celebrate on a video game cover, and I can’t wait to see the beauty and unique traditions of the Masters in EA Sports PGA Tour.”
EA Sports PGA Tour does not yet have a release date, although one is expected to be announced in the coming months. EA Tiburon is behind the title, having previously worked on PGA Tour games between 2007 and 2016. The studio is also responsible for dozens of other sports games, including EA Sports MMA, EA Sports Fantasy Football, NFL Street, and NASCAR Thunder.
