This Week In Modding: Too Much Malenia, Mario Supports Medicare For All, And More

This week, Resident Evil fans were in for a rude awakening when remasters of 2, 3 and 7 went live – overwriting last-gen versions. This made their mods completely obsolete, as they pleaded with Capcom to help them.

Also in the news, Elden Ring gets even harder, and Medicare For All activists release a unique spin on the classic Dr. Mario game. All of that and more in our weekly mod round-up.

Elden Ring Mod Clarifies What Exactly Each Item Does

Elden Ring loves to be cryptic, but that’s especially problematic when we don’t know what our weapons actually do. The Detailed Item Descriptions mod fixes this, making it clear what every item does, and even gives you percentages for buffs and nerfs. “These new descriptions are much more detailed and actually give an accurate description of what an item does”, reads the mod page on Nexus. “They include exact numbers, so if an item inflicts damage you will know how much damage it inflicts. If an item gives you some sort of buff you will be able to know what it buffs, exactly how much it buffs it by, and how long the effect lasts for."

Elden Ring Impossible To Beat With New Mod That Makes Every Enemy Malenia

Ever thought that Elden Ring is just a bit too easy? No? Of course, you haven’t, but here’s a way to make it even harder anyway. Malenia is the bane of everyone’s playthrough, and now, you can go up against her every waking moment you spend in the Lands Between. That’s right, someone has actually turned every single enemy into Malenia. As you can see in the video, it’s absolutely terrifying – but possible. Sorry, Let Me Solo Her, we’re tagging you back in.

Capcom Clashes With Resident Evil Modders

Game remasters are exciting for most players, but they can be a nightmare for modders. As we’ve covered in the past with Mass Effect and (one of) Skyrim’s re-releases, engine changes mean that modders have to either adapt their work for the new release while still supporting those who play on older versions. But in the case of Resident Evil’s recent upgrades to three of its games, it was even worse – the older versions weren’t available. This meant that overnight, hundreds of mods became useless. Thankfully, Capcom listened to fans and re-released the last-gen versions of Resident Evil 2, 3 and 7, so they’re once again compatible with all the mods that have been released for them over the years.

Dr. Mario Mod Makes The Game Harder The Worse Your Insurance Is

The Super Mario series seems to be set in a utopia where everyone gets equal healthcare coverage regardless of their income. A utopia or, you know, most of the developed world. However, if that just reminds you of the bitter reality of American healthcare, then this is the mod for you. Dr. Mario Insurance is a twist on the usual Dr. Mario game, as it varies in difficulty based on your insurance plan. Admittedly, I’m British, so I have no idea what HMO, HSA and deductible mean. But goddamn, it’s messed up that you have to know what these mean just to get basic healthcare. In better news, the game was made in support of Medicare For All, and is fundraising for politicians who support the policy.
