Voice actor Nolan North says the ‘ship has kinda sailed’ when it comes to a new Uncharted, or at least one involving him.
The man behind the voice, and motion capture, of Nathan Drake does not seem to think a fifth mainline entry is going to happen.
‘A lot of people want the fifth Uncharted, but that ship has kinda sailed. It’s great that so many people can all remember such an iconic franchise,’ he told website OnlySP.
‘It wasn’t until the fourth one kind of started that there’s no fifth one and you’re going ‘Okay, what’s next?’ But you don’t want to jump the shark … It was bittersweet to end the franchise, but we’re proud of what we’ve made, and if that’s the way that Sony and Naughty Dog decide to leave it, then I’m fine with that.’
Although North’s comments seem to rule out a fifth entry in general, an additional game has already been released after Uncharted 4, in the form of spin-off The Lost Legacy starring Chole and Nadine – but not Nate.
More importantly, the coda for Uncharted 5, which we won’t spoil here, gives a clear hint as to an alternative star for future games. One that wouldn’t require Nolan North, except for perhaps a supporting role.
Whether North would necessarily know about a new game in which he didn’t play the lead is uncertain, but for now developer Naughty Dog are busy making The Last Of Us Part II – which currently has no release date.
What Naughty Dog are working on after that is currently unknown, but if it turns out not to be Uncharted 5 then it may be that North is right to doubt any further entries.
