A trio of reliable sources claim that Microsoft’s next gen Xbox event later this month won’t say anything about the new console’s price.
Now that we know when Microsoft is going to unveil the games line-up for the Xbox Series X (Thursday, 23 July – if you missed the memo) the question is what exactly will they show?
They’ve already said that Halo Infinite will be the only first party exclusive at launch but that doesn’t mean they can’t show others that will be coming out later, games like the endless rumoured Fable sequel/reboot.
But apparently what they won’t be talking about is the cost of the Xbox Series X or any of the other rumoured new Xbox consoles. At least according to tweets from respected industry insiders Daniel Ahmad and The Verge editor Tom Warren.
He doesn’t claim to know whether Forza Horizon developer Playground Games is working on a new Fable or not, but he does seem convinced that the studio will be part of the showcase – so something from them is apparently imminent.
However, new studio The Initiative supposedly won’t be present, since they only started work on their new game in 2018. Some rumours claim the game is a new Perfect Dark title, although again Grubb doesn’t seem to know for sure one way or the other.
Senua’s Saga: Hellblade 2 will definitely be a the showcase, apparently, alongside previously previewed games such as Psychonauts 2 and Wasteland 3.
Grubb offers no insider information on Rare, but it does seem very likely they’ll be there, at the very least for Sea Of Thieves but probably for Battletoads and the previously announced Everwild as well.
This will all be in addition to third party games but there’s no clue yet as to exactly which ones, even though Call Of Duty does seem very likely based purely on the timing of the event.
In terms of hardware and pricing, Grubb seems to agree with the others that nothing will be said, with Microsoft waiting to unveil the cheaper Xbox Series S/Lockhart model until August.
They will probably talk about services such as Game Pass though, with Grubb predicting a major third party game announcement – possibly Cyberpunk 2077.
