This Animal Crossing horror trailer is unsettling enough to be a real movie

Animal Crossing: New Horizons is — on its surface — a cute, idyllic life simulator. But that hasn’t stopped fans from turning it into a horror video game. And, as we all know, every horror video game needs a trailer. Buckle up.

YouTube creator Evil Imp took the horror theme up a notch by creating a two-minute horror movie trailer with in-game footage. It’s truly a work of art, and must have taken a lot of effort. It’s got everything: Dramatic light switches, red balloons, skeletons, ghosts, axe murders, and ants. It’s got Sherb, Pietro, and Coco — the last of whom is absolutely horrifying on her own.

Here’s the synopsis, straight from Evil Imp:

A young woman escapes to her dream island. But what begins as a perfect paradise quickly spirals into an endless nightmare.

Evil Imp’s even got a video with some “Behind the Scenes” footage with the horror film’s stars, Pietro and Sherb. (And Good Actress, the human in red.) It looks like Evil Imp created a lot of the trailer using Harv’s photography island, which is a creepy enough place as is. Regardless of how it was made — we’ve reached out to Evil Imp to hear more — it’s an impressive feat in New Horizons storytelling, and I’d like to see more.

If we’re to believe Pietro, we might just get to. In the second video, the villager says a science fiction-themed horror film is next. Here’s hoping!
