Cyberpunk 2077 might be the biggest game of 2020. Cyberpunk 2077 shifts the focus of developer CD Projekt Red (creators of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt) from the past to the future, but the choice-driven storytelling, strong characters, and evocative world-building CDPR is known for all look to be intact. It has some serious star power behind it, too–Keanu Reeves stars as Johnny Silverhand, Grimes and Run the Jewels are contributing songs to the soundtrack, and the studio behind Promare is making a Cyberpunk 2077 anime with Silent Hill composer Akira Yamaoka doing the score.
After a series of delays, Cyberpunk 2077 is set to finally release November 19 on PS4, Xbox One, and PC. You’ll also be able to play Cyberpunk 2077 on PS5 and Xbox Series X, but the enhanced next-gen upgrades and dedicated editions are coming later. Keep in mind that if you order a digital next-gen console (the Series S or PS5 Digital), you won’t be able to play your physical copy of Cyberpunk 2077 on it.
We recently got the chance to go hands-on with Cyberpunk 2077 and play some of the game’s early missions and side quests. Be sure to check out senior editor Tamoor Hussain’s early impressions of Cyberpunk 2077 after spending four hours in Night City.
The game is based on Mike Pondsmith’s tabletop game Cyberpunk 2020, so the 2020 release date makes total sense. However, the game itself is set 57 years later in the futuristic android-filled world of Night City, where android augmentations are an integral part of people’s lives. There looks to be plenty of deep customization and lots of options when it comes to first-person combat. The team has confirmed Cyberpunk 2020 will not have microtransactions, will be DRM-free on PC, and have DLC similar in size to Wild Hunt.
