The original Star Wars Battlefront from 2004 is now available on both Steam and GOG.com as part of a Star Wars Day (May the Fourth) promotion with LucasArts. Pandemic Studios’ classic shooter is $8.49 at both marketplaces.
This is the first time the first game in the series has been available to PC players in an online marketplace, which is a big deal as the physical edition’s multiplayer required either a LAN or a direct IP network connection. When GameSpy went kaput in 2014, it took down official multiplayer support for the original Battlefront with it. But, as noted earlier by Eurogamer, a Steam user has supplied this guide for getting into a community server for the Steam version.
Star Wars Battlefront came to the Xbox Marketplace in April 2018 (and is $5.99), and Pandemic’s 2005 follow-up Battlefront 2 came to Xbox Live Games With Gold back in April. Battlefront 2 is on the PlayStation Store — but only as a PlayStation Vita/PSP title — along with the lesser known Star Wars Battlefront: Elite Squadron for PSP from 2009.
Other Star Wars titles are on sale through Xbox Live marketplace for the Star Wars Day weekend include Lego Star Wars: The Force Awakens for $10 (Deluxe Edition for $15); 2017’s Star Wars: Battlefront 2 for $7.50 (a savings of $17.49); the Ultimate Edition of Star Wars Battlefront (2015) for $5 ($14.99 off); and the Hoth Bundle for that game for $9.90 (a $20.09 savings).
