Dying Light 2 delayed to 2022

Dying Light 2 Stay Human won’t meet its previously scheduled release date — it was supposed to ship this December — and will now arrive on Feb. 4, 2022, developer Techland announced Tuesday morning.

Techland CEO Paweł Marchewka confirmed Dying Light 2’s new release date on Twitter, apologizing to fans for the wait.

“The team is steadily progressing with the production and the game is nearing the finish line,” Marchewka said. “The game is complete and we are currently playtesting it. It is by far the biggest and the most ambitious project we’ve ever done. Unfortunately, we’ve realized for us to bring the game to the level we envision, we need more time to polish and optimize it …”

“We are sorry to keep you all waiting a little longer, but we want the game to meet your highest expectations on release and we don’t want to compromise on this.”

As a consolation, Marchewka said that fans can expect previews of the console and PC versions of the game sometime in October.

Dying Light 2 Stay Human is bound for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Windows PC, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X. The sequel will send players to the City, described by Techland as “mankind’s last stronghold in the fight” against the virus that turned the population of Harran into zombielike creatures in Dying Light. The day-night cycle and parkour-inspired traversal of the original game will return in Dying Light 2. Players will take control of a new protagonist, Aiden Caldwell, who joins up with a group of survivors known as the Nightrunners.

Techland announced Dying Light 2 at E3 2018 and was originally planned for a spring 2020 launch. In our preview of the game from E3 2019, we compared it to a first-person action movie. “It can be dizzying at times, with the main character leaping from rooftop to rooftop, then grappling with enemies at close range,” we said at the time. “At other times it can be downright frightening, with tense standoffs against the undead deep inside dark, cavernous buildings.”
