Ubisoft has big news planned for the Ghost Recon branch of its 20-year-old Tom Clancy’s franchise of video games. The big announcement might have been undercut by a retail leak (from Ubisoft’s own store) yesterday, but there’s still plenty to talk about for the next chapter. The live stream is at 2:30 p.m. EDT, and you can watch all of it live, right here.
Yesterday’s leak said the name of the game is Ghost Recon Breakpoint and that the game will launch Oct. 4 on PlayStation 4, Windows PC and Xbox One. Its antagonist apparently is the character, played by The Punisher’s Jon Bernthal, who was introduced in last week’s free Operation Oracle update to Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon Wildlands. Leaks suggest he will lead an army of weaponized drones.
Wildlands, which launched in 2017, was the last entry in the tactical shooter sub-series, which set its style of action in the open-world staple of Ubisoft for the first time. Wildlands followed the last entry in the Ghost Recon line (2012’s Future Soldier) by almost five years. In that stretch, Tom Clancy fans got one Splinter Cell, two Divisions, and multiplayer hit Rainbow Six Siege.
