Cocoon release date countdown – Another game of the year contender for 2023

Forget Starfield, Tears of the Kingdom, Resident Evil 4 Remake, Baldur’s Gate 3 and Lies of P, another game of the year contender is about to make its debut on PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch and PC via Steam. Indeed, fans of indie classics like Limbo and Inside will be pleased to hear that Jeppe Carlsen’s Cocoon is about to make its debut on all platforms.

With near-perfect scores from websites like Eurogamer, IGN, GameSpot and GamesRadar, Cocoon is the new game from the lead gameplay designer of the aforementioned Limbo and Inside.

Cocoon, however, isn’t a side-scrolling platformer, but a top-down adventure game with world leaping gameplay mechanics.

Reviewers have praised the game’s ingenious puzzles, not to mention its superb atmosphere, something which shouldn’t surprise fans of games like Limbo.

It’s currently sitting pretty with a Metacritic score of 89%, making it a surprise game of the year contender for 2023.

Better yet, unlike some of the triple-A GOTY blockbusters, Cocoon only costs between £16-£21 depending on your platform of choice.

“Cocoon is a unique take on the puzzle adventure genre, where each world exists within an orb that you can carry on your back,” reads the official description.

“Wrap your head around the core mechanic of leaping between worlds—and combine, manipulate, and rearrange them to solve intricate puzzles.

“Interact with alien environments and biomechanical devices left behind by an ancient civilisation. Journey through unique and diverse biomes, from industrial structures to massive organic caverns, and discover how they are connected to one another.”

Cocoon will be available to purchase from 4pm BST UK time on September 29.
