Tekken 8 beta test – How to play fighting sequel early and without a pre-order

Tekken 8 publisher Bandai Namco has announced plans to hold a closed beta in October. The upcoming fighting game will make its full debut in January 2024 for PS5, Xbox Series X/S and PC. If you want to play the game ahead of launch, then you can apply to take part in the closed beta test, which takes place at 9am BST UK time on October 20, until the same time on October 23. You don’t need a pre-order to apply for a code, but spaces are limited.

You can register for a code by visiting the Tekken 8 website and filling out the form.

Fans have until October 11 to apply for a code. Successful applicants will receive a beta invite on October 18.

While the beta is playable on Xbox Series X/S, PS5 and PC, participants won’t need Xbox Gold or PS Plus in order to enjoy the action.

It’s also worth noting that anybody who participated in June’s Closed Network Tests can play the beta after an update.

Bandai Namco explains more: “The Tekken 8 CBT will let players test online head-to-head competitive play with cross-platform matching, raising the level of competition by letting them pair with others regardless of where they play.

“They will also be able to test the TEKKEN Fight Lounge, an immersive lobby where players can interact with one another and access new features and game modes.

“In the lounge, players can create custom Avatars, communicate with other players via chat and emotes, set up matchmaking, and experience the deep customisation and variety of game modes via four distinct areas called Battle Area, Customisation Shop, Tekken DOJO, and Beach Area.”

Unfortunately, however, while the lounge will welcome the return of Tekken Ball when the game launches next year, the fan-favourite mini-game won’t be available in the beta.

On the plus side, the Tekken 8 beta will contain a grand total of 19 playable characters to experiment with.

This includes Jin, Kazuya, Jun, Paul, Law, King, Lars, Jack-8, Xiaoyu, Nina, Leroy, Lili, Asuka, Hwoarang, Bryan and Claudio.

That’s on top of Azucena, Raven, and the newly announced character of Feng, who can be seen in the trailer above.

Playable locations, meanwhile, include the Urban Square (Evening), Yakushima, Rebel Hangar, Sanctum, Arena, and Ortiz Farm.
